New website, bye bye Blogger.

Hello friends!

Long time no see! Is there still somebody lost over here? I doubt it...
After a good few years hiatus away from the internet, I'm happy to launch my brand new website! You will also find a shinny new blog attached to it.
You'll be able to see what I've been up to for the last few years.

This blog is now officially closed (as if it wasn't dead already, duh...) and you can now go to:

Thank you blogger for all that happened here.

See you on the other side, folks!

Laika's "The Boxtrolls"

Hello to those who still hang around here, despite the lack of updates...again.
Since the begining of the year, I've been really busy with my personal life, including an upcoming house move, and working on projects I won't be able to show anything from before a few more years (this is one of the thing about working in animation).
I'm so busy that I don't really have free time to draw for myself. But it will change before the end of the year, eventually. I shall then move to tumblr to keep up with the modern world.

Anyway, yesterday was released the teaser for Laika's next feature, "The Boxtrolls", on which I've worked as a character designer early on, in 2010-2011. I'll be able to show some of it after it comes out...in a year (By that time, I'll have 4 years old drawings to show...haha!).
It's been interesting to see what stayed of my work, what's gone, what changed and how it has evolved into these beautifully animated puppets that the geniuses at Laika make so well.

I can't wait to see the finished film as the story is great!

2013

Have a yummy 2013 everyone!

The original painting was made for my friends Suzanne and Max's little girl, Lulu, who likes red&blue monsters, to hang in her room. Véro made an other picture with the other half of her name to hang next to it.
Being a lazy and shameless animal, I've reused the monster for my New year card...

This is a screenprint poster I did for an exhibition in Nantes (France) for a comic and illustration festival this past week end, organised by my good friends from Atelier Radar . This is part of a series where each of the thirteen illustrators had to illustrate a sentence, part of a bigger story, but without knowing it all, a bit like a "cadavre exquis". The caption says: "The islanders organise the revolution". You can cutout and build the little scene.

Pinky Malinky reboot

Earlier this year I've spent few days helping my pal, master Chris Garbutt, doing some art for the second pilot/trailer of his project "Pinky Malinky". I was exploring backgrounds and various characters design styles. Chris explains it a bit here. The new trailer is really cool and I hope it'll become a proper show sometime soon. Here's a selection.

I've stolen the two cool kids drawings on the wall&floor to some friends son. Here's his super blog.

More development on "Little Rikke"

More CN development designs I found in my files. Here's a selection for "Little Rikke" by the great Rikke Asjboern, that we develloped back in 2008. I've already shown the backgrounds and the title sequence we've made back then, but not these drawings. We explored different directions for the characters but the final versions reflected Rikke's own designs, which pretty much always proves more natural and better in a creator-driven show. It was then a matter of working towards that.
